The Global Carbon Removal Partnership (GCRP) is a global, multi-stakeholder initiative focused on accelerating carbon removal solutions (biological and technological) at scale. The GCRP intends to mobilize bold and transformative action to ensure the survival and flourishing of humanity.

The IPCC has acknowledged that Iin order to meet the globally-agreed Paris Agreement and to ensure global warming is kept below a 1.5 degrees Celsius increase, carbon must be removed from the air. There is an unprecedented opportunity to mobilize a broad range of stakeholders from around the world to make bold commitments on the use of carbon removal solutions to become net zero, and ideally, negative.
The Global Carbon Removal Pledge aims to support the:
- Development of new policies that embrace carbon removal as part of local, national and regional strategies to address climate change and carbon sequestration;
- Development of new financial mechanisms that incentivize the adoption and deployment of carbon removal technologies cost effectively;
- Development and deployment of biological and technological solutions for carbon removal
Through policy, finance and innovation, the Global Carbon Removal Pledge aims to create an ecosystem that enables and accelerates the development of a carbon removal market.
Signatories to the pledge agree to the following actions:
- Adopt the GCRP Principles for Responsible Carbon Removal
- Develop a net zero/net negative action plan inclusive carbon removal
- Demonstrate carbon removal action in the next six months
